Hello. Sorry for my bad english. It is not my native language. I am ukrainian. My name is Anatoly. Story began when i was looking for songs in different Slavic languages. I was curious how they are similar and their history. I watched a video on YouTube about different countries. The first thing that caught my eye were the flags.

slika

Yellow and blue colors make ukrainian and bosnian flags similar. In Ukraine blue color symbolizes the sky and yellow wheat ears.

I'll tell a little about Ukraine. Ukraine is a slavic country. It is in Eastern Europe. The capital of Ukraine was the capital of Ruthenia.

slika

Most of the population is orthodox and greek catholics. It was part of the Soviet Union. In the Soviet past, there were a lot of troubles, especially the Holodomor. In 1992 Ukraine gained independence. Perhaps you've heard of the revolution in 2013 and the war with Russia began after. In my opinion in Ukraine there are processes that can be called a revival of the Slavic culture. The country is trying to get away from Russia, which wants a monopoly on the Eastern Slavs. Now the country wants to enter Europe (or remain independent full-fledged strong state).

I read a story of Bosnia in wikipedia and i think that the history of Ukrainian and Bosnian people is somewhat similar. So I created this topic. What do you think about it? And where are you?

I listened to the bosnian songs and some words are similar to Ukrainian (of course, because it is slavic languages). You can listen to the ethnic ukrainian songs.

Червона рута

Я піду в далекі гори

Гарний, козак, гарний

Also contemporary songs.

На небі

В чистім полі

Also the winner of the last Eurovision was ukrainian crimean tatar singer Jamala wiht song 1944

Advise the popular bosnian song. Youtube does not show all bosnian ethnic songs :001_rolleyes

And you will, just like Ukraine lost Krimea, lose part of Bosnia.

Bosnia and Herzegovina (B&H) is a strong divided society. There are around 50% Muslims and 50% Christians in the country. You are at the time on the forum where Christians (BH Croats and BH Serbs) prevail.

Furthermore, Christians are divided into orthodox and catholic part, where Orthodox significant outnumber Catholics.

Muslims in B&H (in recent time they call themselves Bosniaks) maintain strong links to Islam and historic Ottoman empire. They are mostly South Slavs who convert to Islam in the period of Ottomans.

At the moment there are many political issues among these three communities especially between Muslims and others. Bosniaks implement policy of hegemony and outvoting, that causes permanent political frictions in the country. They want this country only for themselves, and BH Croats and BH Serbs are nuisance on that political path.

As long as they have their own language, history and indentity you can't call them fake.

There are in fact some similarities between Ukrainians and Croats in B&H. We are both mostly ikavian speakers and actually among all Slavic people only Ukrainians and Croats speak their language in ikavian. Ukrainian is ikavian language only, while ikavian in croatian is just part of local dialects, but we can for sure say that over 1/3 of all Croats have ikavian roots or speak ikavian croatian even now.

Ukrainians stem from the Kievian Rus which are a branch of old Russians which is not to be confused with the modern Russian identity. Modern Russians stem from Moscovites which are related to the Kievan Rus and other Slavs but also distinct.

One can say Ukrainians and Belarussians are more genuinely "Rus" than modern day Russians. Ukraine literally means 'the frontier land' and is primarily a geographic designation.

Some Ukrainians are descended from old White Croats as White Croatian territory covered large parts of Ukraine as well. If there are any Slavs Ukrainians are related to other than Belarussians and Russians it would a distant relation to Croats.

I could not agree less. Ukraine was centre of Russian people until the Mongol conquest. Kiev was sacked and ruled by Tatars, whule Moscow remained "free" and paid tribute to them. This enabled somewhat better position of Moscow, which eventually became a new center of "russiandom" (let's call it so).

Tatars were sort of a wall between Moscow and Kiev, and eventually two separate identities emerged. Moscow stole the leading role from Kiev. Both were once the same people, but historical developments made them different. Ukrainian and Russian are now separate languages.

@UkrBosna, I'm a Croat, but was trolling with Bosniak mujahideen music.

Vast majority? You should emphasize whether they speak Russian as first or second language. Vast majority of Armenians also speak Russian, but they are completely different nationalities. This was Soviet influence, has nothing to do Ukrainians being inclined towards Russia or modern Russian identity. Vast majority of Ukrainians speak Ukrainian as their first language. They cannot be compared with Bosniaks, because Bosniaks speak the same language as Serbs and Croats; Ukrainians do not speak the same language as Russians. Moreover, Kiev was a leading center of Russiandom (the medieval one), and as such it has historical justification, so to speak, to be a separate country. Moscow became center of Russiandom only later after the Tatar conquest of Kiev.

Strange comparison with the Soviet Union, atheistic anti-people country, which uses a pro-people slogans.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Terror
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stalinism
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulag
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holodomor

The country conducted the ethnic cleansing against the Ukrainian population and genocide. Now Ukraine is a christian democratic country, which is free of other religions, open to the world. The Bolsheviks could not create the slavic national country. You can find pluses and minuses in the influence of the Soviet Union on the establishment of state borders, but the state appeared contrary. People have made their choice, by going through a referendum. Ukraine fought for independence and won in such boundaries. Now Ukraine is a decommunization country.

Russia also considers himself a pro-slavic christian (orthodox) country. So to speak, that the Soviet Union is Russia is not quite right. In the Soviet Union had a lot of different republics. But, in my opinion, Russia is a country of contradictions. It retains the right to heritage as the Soviet Union and the Russian empire (despite the fact that the red and white are killing each other in the socialist revolution of 1917). Russia manages to clear his name, denied involvement in the crime to the state of early states and control of the imperialists and socialists within the country, and muslim also.

It generates a lot of contradictions between Ukraine and Russia. Ukraine recognizes the crimes of the Soviet Union, Russia - partly yes, in large part no. Ukraine accuses Russia empire in the promotion of the slave trade and the humiliation of the slavs, Russia believes that the Slavs were the titular people and justifies its history. And there are many examples. For example in the modern history, Ukraine against Russia climbing to Syria.

About language
In Ukraine believes that the official ukrainian language is the language of the village, native language for people who live on the territory of Central Ukraine. Also has Ukrainian dialects that are allowed. Ukraine is the biggest country in Europe.

slika

I'm talking about the fact that Ukraine is a very large country with a rich culture. In such a large Eastern Slavic country has its own dialects. The official and national language is Ukrainian Central adverb. It believes that center of Ukraine is the historic center of Ruthenia. Most ethnic groups in Ukraine consider themselves a part of it is the Ukrainian nation. Also has the Ukrainian people (for example, the Crimean Tatar Muslims schiyut themselves Ukrainians). It is believed that the Russian language is the language of the church, which developed from the old Bulgarian, when Christianity came. Of course, any language has a right to exist.

You might think that linguistic unity is in Russia. No. East Slavic Russian people speak different dialects, surzhik, with accents. For example, the native language Kubanian people (in western Russia) is Kubanian balachka.

Balachka in Russia is considered to be a dialect of Russian language, in Ukraine is Ukrainian dialects. During the Russian-Ukrainian wars part of the ethnic Ukrainians were resettled to the Kuban. Kuban are also Ruthenian eastern (ukranian western) culture, which is different from the Russian, when you consider that the ancestors of the Kubanian (Cossacks) are constantly at war with Russia. Therefore, ethnic folk songs of the Kuban 80% similar to Ukrainian, 20% Russian. And this is not the only example. Especially in one language they do not speak not of Slavic territory of Russia. Russia have only 30% slavs people. One language (russian) is good lauded imperial myth.

About the prevalence of the Russian language in Ukraine

Native ukraine language for people
slika

The vast majority of the population of bilingual (know Russian and Ukrainian languages). It is one of the influences of the Soviet Union. Residents of Ukraine can be divided into 3 groups: Ukrainian-speaking ethnic Ukrainians (40-50%), Russian-speaking ethnic Ukrainians (20-25%), Russian-speaking ethnic Russians (15%) and other. It should be noted that Russian-speaking ethnic Ukrainians love Ukraine and consider it their homeland, they can also be considered Ukrainian language as national. On Russian language created a lot of content that does not make Ukraine closer to Russia. For example, russian language song:

Now in Russian saying, born in the USSR. If you stop its influence language will fade itself in other republics, for example, Georgia. More similar languages combined with evolutionary developments. This is normal. Ukraine also has its claims to parts of Russia. But that does not mean you have to start a war. This is not a war for the Slavs. Thieves and bandits in the government wanted to play for the sake of their capital. In the end the human rights and freedoms are not the main value in Russia.

Sorry if violated the rules of the forum.

I'm annoyed with this "battle of the forms", present among South Slavic peoples... If Ukrainians called themselves Russians in the middle ages, it doesn't mean they have anything in common with the present-day Russian identity. I'm sure majority of Ukrainians would gladly accept to once again adopt Russian name if Kiev would become a new center of this new Russia, and Moscow would become second to Kiev. Ukrainians can call themselves as they wish, they can call themselves Dinosaurs, but they will still have distinct and separate identity which makes them a nation. If Chinese were called Russians today, majority of South Slavs would be puzzled why Russians wouldn't like to be part of China...

It has the same Slavic names that are sometimes used:
Bogdana, Lyubov, Miroslava, Nadezhda, Slava, Snezhana, Svetlana, Vera, Vladislava, Yaroslava
Bogdan, Boris, Miroslav, Rostislav, Stanislav, Svyatoslav, Vadim, Vlad, Vladimir, Vladislav, Vsevolod, Vyacheslav, Yaroslav

There are Christian names. The names are similar, but there are differences in spelling and pronunciation. For example,
ukr. Mihailo - rus. Mihail
Volodomir - Vladimir
Mykola - Nikolai

Nearest territory like Kuban and Belgorod edge understand not bad. From Ukraine the farther the worse understand. They can not understand anything. Russian language keeps some apart from other Slavic. Maybe I will find infographics

This is not a war for the Slavs. Thieves and bandits in the government wanted to play for the sake of their capital. In the end the human rights and freedoms are not the main value in Russia.

Very interesting post. Though I dont agree with a number of things, it was a very good read. Thank you for putting the effort to write it.
