The meaning is similar, an obstacle over which a particular horse jumps. We'd say prepona also. But as a discipline of horseback riding or "preponsko jahanje" it is called show jumping. Horseback riding has a posh tech term too. That's equestrianism. Or, in Croatian, konjički sport. Originally from latin equus. Talking about hard words. P.S. You are learning Spanish, so I'll say that it too has a similiar word in the same meaning.

Ok. You Tarzan, me Cheetah P.S. Why Good Friday be called those, I wonder? Tomahawk. I think labeling this level of English proficiency as Tarzan-like is quite insulting to just about every Croat who arrived in Australia/Canada 40-50 years ago, as what I displayed is identical (or superior) to their actual mastery of the English language.

In line with Ljubljana, Bratislava, Sofia, Bucharest. The coast is where it's at - it's a travesty to even mention Zagreb in the same breath as Split, Dubrovnik etc. Don't mean to be disrespectful, just my 2c worth.

Geez, Mr Serious, it was a joke, a pun, a word game... I don't think I'm better or smarter than our parents' or grandparents' generations if I'm more proficient or skillful in the language. It's just that we live in the global age where English serves as lingua franca, and there are simply more opportunities to learn it. Every tv series is in English, every song on the radio, English is a part of our world in a way it wasn't a generation ago. Especially behind the Iron curtain. Loosen up a bit. I'm not making fun of anybody.

It's my home, a place drenched in memories, the only place I know all about, the only place I would ever know all about. If you grade every place where you go like that, you will get yourself rip off of a real, authentic experience. In every place there is something beautiful to see. If you go only to so called A- class places, than you'll just see what everybody else is seeing, and, in my opinion, your image of the world will be too generic. The same will happen if you travel through tourist agency, you become a small wheel in the tourist industry and your experience is exactly the same as those zillions of people went through before you. The stories you tell and the view you take are so generic to me, no offence. I love culture, arts and literature, but in the time of globalization there is a little left of authenticity in general. And you'll find it best if you get off touristy routes. Lastly, Zagreb is more beautiful than Vienna and it has me, what else can you ask for?

There is a certain quote from Charlotte Bronte, from Wuthering Heights. I''ll paraphrase in Croatian. Volim ga jer je lijep, zgodan, inteligentan i privlačan. Pa postoji i ljepši i inteligentniji i mlađi od njega. Zašto ne voliš njih? Go luck in your quest for authenticity and beauty, best of luck indeed And make sure to grade everything correctly There is beauty in all, there is absolute beauty in nothing and there is no authenticity unless you find it for yourself.
