I think labeling this level of English proficiency as Tarzan-like is quite insulting to just about every Croat who arrived in Australia/Canada 40-50 years ago, as what I displayed is identical (or superior) to their actual mastery of the English language.

Geez, Mr Serious, it was a joke, a pun, a word game...
I don't think I'm better or smarter than our parents' or grandparents' generations if I'm more proficient or skillful in the language.
It's just that we live in the global age where English serves as lingua franca, and there are simply more opportunities to learn it. Every tv series is in English, every song on the radio, English is a part of our world in a way it wasn't a generation ago. Especially behind the Iron curtain.
Loosen up a bit. I'm not making fun of anybody. :nanana

That one flew right over your head my friend...so there's a bit more to learn about the Anglo culture of "digs". Google "feigned indignation".
It was a backhanded/roundabout dig at the peasants who came here 40-50 years ago and still haven't expanded their vocabulary past 500 words.

What's so remarkable about a generic central/eastern European town? A cheap knock off of Vienna, Prague, Budapest, St Petersburg. In line with Ljubljana, Bratislava, Sofia, Bucharest.

The coast is where it's at - it's a travesty to even mention Zagreb in the same breath as Split, Dubrovnik etc.

Don't mean to be disrespectful, just my 2c worth.

Everything about Zagreb is special. It's my home, a place drenched in memories, the only place I know all about, the only place I would ever know all about.
If you grade every place where you go like that, you will get yourself rip off of a real, authentic experience.
In every place there is something beautiful to see.
If you go only to so called A- class places, than you'll just see what everybody else is seeing, and, in my opinion, your image of the world will be too generic.
The same will happen if you travel through tourist agency, you become a small wheel in the tourist industry and your experience is exactly the same as those zillions of people went through before you.
The stories you tell and the view you take are so generic to me, no offence.
I love culture, arts and literature, but in the time of globalization there is a little left of authenticity in general.
And you'll find it best if you get off touristy routes.
Lastly, Zagreb is more beautiful than Vienna and it has me, what else can you ask for? :nanana

You gotta take off your rose coloured glasses. I do it all the time. I have strong connections to 4 cities, but it doesn't stop me from saying that 3 of them are shitholes which I am fond of. But I don't go recommending them to unsuspecting visitors as my attachment to those cities is an attachment to memories and experiences which won't translate across to anyone else.

I rarely travel, don't do the "tourist thing" as I'm too much of a simpleton to appreciate the historic sights, architecture and "high culture".

I was just making an objective comment about Zagreb. If you really "had to" see Central Europe and it was a one-off trip, there's no way anyone could recommend Zagreb over Vienna, Budapest and Prague. Only for the seasoned "hipster" style traveller who wants to see placed they deem "authentic" (whatever that means). When my friends have asked me about Croatia, I've always been honest and told them to stick to the coast and not bother with anything else.

The only thing that has changed is that now we have the "Franjo Tuđman International Airport", which is probably the only reason why I'd visit. And not leave the airport of course.

Ministry, what is @snowflake's English like?

I think, she's the best here except the native speakers and those who live in English speaking area.

Her writing and grammar is exceptional. However, speaking is a different kettle of fish and the quality of it isn't easy to infer from someone's written English. You'd have to think that it's pretty decent though.

Ok then, but I've heard of people of Croatian descent who lived in Australia 50 years and hadn't learned a word of English.

That's so completely opposite from me. I knew it, I pictured you to be something like that.
The sea, cocktails and expensive hotels, boring :zubati
Don't get me wrong, I like people who get the world differently from myself, but you overanalyze. There is no such thing as objective opinion, except in science and even there it's doubtful.
So, your quasi objective opinion is really a subjective opinion :001_smile the one with which I'm deeply displeased of course.
As I have said; if you can't hide from the subjective mode, then embrace it, and you calculate too much, my friend.
Nevertheless, you view at the world is interesting.
But I will turn you around. That's my evil plan. :D
P.S. Sorry for the late response.

To me podsjeća na ono moral i morale...

Primjer:
Plurality of English words are of French origin. (true!)

Grain = pšenica, žito.

Postoji nejasnoca, preklapanje i mijesanje u znacenju, npr. Wikipedija kaze

Citat:
Grains are small, hard, dry seeds, with or without attached hulls or fruit layers, harvested for human or animal consumption.[1] "Grain crops" is the term used for grain seed producing plants by agronomists. The two main types of commercial grain crops are cereals (wheat, rye) and legumes (beans, soybeans). Because of the ubiquity of grain as a food source, the term grain is often used to describe something small and with volume or mass similar to an individual grain seed.

No. Out of sesion means that there is no session at all.
The decision has been reached at an extraordinary (special) session.

The expression i used is more of a legal sort, used in legal discourse.
You can combine mine and shodan's answer and choose which one suits you better.
Shodan reminded me, you can even use something like unplanned session.
But beware of the style,is it legal, business, formal or informal.
If it's legal (politics, law) use mine, otherwise use Shodan's.
