BERLIN (AP) — Germany is mulling taking away benefits from asylum-seekers if they refuse to try to learn the language and integrate; Denmark has just approved a measure to let police seize valuables from migrants to help cover their housing and food costs; and an Austrian province this week is expected to more than halve payments to many refugees.

Tražitelji azila iz Sirije i Iraka vratit će se u te zemlje kad se tamo okončaju konflikti, kao što se 70 posto onih koji su s Balkana devedesetih godina izbjegli u Njemačku vratilo kući, rekla je njemačka kancelarka Angela Merkel.

Uprkos naporima da se izbjeglice integriraju i da im se pruži pomoć, važno je, kako je rekla, da se naglasi da se njima samo daje dozvola za boravak na određeno vrijeme, prenosi AJB.

– Trebamo reći ljudima da je to privremeni rezidencijalni status i da očekujemo kad ponovo zavlada mir u Siriji i kad ISIL bude poražen u Iraku, da se vratite u svoju rodnu zemlju sa znanjem koje ste stekli, rekla je Merkel na skupu CDU.

Ona je navela i da se 70 posto izbjeglica koje su došle u Njemačku bježeći od ratova u bivšoj Jugoslaviji tijekom devedesetih godina vratilo u svoje domovine, prenio je Reuters.

Merkel je između ostalog kazala i da od planiranog pooštravanja zakona o azilu očekuje osjetno smanjenje broja izbjeglica, kao i da je europsko rješenje za izbjegličku krizu neophodno.

U petak su njemački dužnosnici dogovorili, nakon nekoliko tjedana odgađanja, novi niz mjera ograničenja broja tražitelja azila u Njemačkoj, dok je zemlja 2015. primila blizu 1,1 milijun izbjeglica i migranata.

Broj tražitelja azila koji prelaze u Njemačku iz Austrije svaki dan pao je na gotovo 700 u proteklih nekoliko dana s više od 2.000 početkom godine.

Njemački političari kažu kako se broj izbjeglica smanjio zbog zimskog razdoblja i upozoravaju da će ponovno rasti na proljeće. /HMS/

Cologne Carnival: Isil suspects arrested 'for planning terror attack in Berlin' as festival begins under tight security

Some 2,500 police deployed on the streets of Cologne in a massive operation to prevent repeat of the New Year’s Eve sex attacks

The annual carnival opened amid heightened security in Cologne and other German cities on Thursday, as two men were arrested in terror raids across the country.

Some 2,500 police are being deployed on the streets of Cologne in a massive operation to prevent any repeat of the New Year’s Eve sex attacks in the city.
But even as the celebrations got underway, two Algerian men were arrested on suspicion of planning a terror attack in Germany.

The two men, one of whom is an asylum-seeker, are suspected of links to Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (Isil).
They were planning a terror attack in Berlin’s Alexanderplatz, one of the busiest squares in the city, according to Bild newspaper.
Police did not confirm details of the alleged plot.

Two other Algerian men are under investigation in connection with the case, but have not been arrested, police said.

The suspected leader of the group, a 35-year-old Algerian man who has not been named, was arrested at a refugee shelter in Attendorn, a small town some 50 miles from Cologne.
He is believed to have received training in Syria, and is wanted in Algeria for his links to Isil.

His wife and two small children have reportedly been taken into police custody as well.
“The man was really unremarkable,” another asylum-seeker at the shelter told Bild. “Last night he played table tennis with a supervisor, he was always taking care of the children.

“But sometimes he was a bit strange. Looking back, he was odd.. He asked me if Isil are here.”
The second man was arrested in Berlin. Both are believed to have been using false indentities.
One of those under investigation is believed to be staying at a refugee shelter in Hannover.

An international football match in the city was called off at the last minute last November, after police received information it could be targetted in a terror attack.
There are also concerns the huge crowds expected at carnival celebrations in Cologne and across western Germany could be targets for potential terror attacks.
Last year a carnival parade in the city of Brunswick was cancelled hours before it was due to start after police received intelligence about a possible attack.
News the suspects in the latest arrests were posing as asylum-seekers will increase the pressure on Angela Merkel over her “open-door” refugee policy.

The German police have arrested a Syrian graduate student in the country’s northwest. The 35-year old had posted an Arabic-language video proclaiming his support for the “Islamic State” group.

The Syrian citizen was detained in a “concentrated police action” and is facing a thorough investigation, authorities said Tuesday. The police indentified him as Malik F., a doctoral student based in Darmstadt.

Malik first drew public attention earlier this week when his online video started making rounds on social media….

The video, which was recently discovered and translated into English by the US-based Middle East Media Research Institute, came as a surprise to his colleagues in Darmstadt.

Malik was “respected as a colleague” and never “drew attention with extremist attitudes” said the Technical University spokesman Jörg Feuck to the newspaper, “Die Welt.”

According to the “Welt” report, the mathematician arrived in Germany in 2007, and was the recipient of a Syrian government scholarship for his PhD in mathematics until 2011.

“I love Germany” Malik stated just hours before his arrest, when contacted by reports from the regional broadcaster Hessische Rundfunk.

When asked if he approved of stoning of women, Malik answered: “That is our religion, I think our religion is good, of course.”…

Young Women Beaten, Sexually Assaulted In Migrant Attacks During German Carnivals

As central Europe builds up to the climax of the carnival season next week there have already been a number of sex assaults by so-called asylum seekers, despite a massive police presence.

Police in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), the German state worst hit by the migrant sex attacks, have deployed thousands of officers to the streets of cities like Cologne and Dusseldorf, established city-centre “safe spaces” and erected powerful generator-powered floodlights in dark streets. Despite these extensive precautions, German women still don’t appear to feel safe, and there have been a number of attacks on the first full day of carnival.

Under the headline “revellers in fear” German magazine Focus reports the comments of festival-goers who told reporters they wouldn’t have come without male escorts. And some who went out alone have learnt the hard way what it means to be a young woman in modern Germany.

In Cologne, a 17-year-old Afghan migrant was arrested at his government-funded camp after he knocked down and raped a 22-year-old woman last night. He had approached her in the street and showed her “pornographic video” on his mobile phone, reports Kronen Zeitung. He suddenly, and without warning, struck her in the face, causing the woman to lose consciousness.

A police spokesman said that by showing the woman porn on his phone, wanted to make “unequivocally clear” what he wanted from her, reports Bild.

At yesterday’s carnival celebrations there were around 22 sexual assaults and rapes, at least double the number recorded on the same day in 2015.

In another NRW town, a 24-year-old woman was raped in broad daylight during carnival festivities by a Nigerian migrant who spent last night in police custody, reports Focus.

Others have taken more pro-active steps to prevent migrant assault and attack.

The children’s carnival party in Herne was totally cancelled after organisers received a letter in Arabic and German calling the children “infidels”.

Initially the group said they had cancelled the party for 250 young Germans because of “organisational reasons”, but later admitted there had been a threat.

The letter writer is under investigation by police, reports Junge Freiheit.

In total there were 224 criminal reports in Cologne including 22 sex offences with 180 arrests. In Dusseldorf, there were 912 police operations, up from 725 last year, with twice as many offences against women, reports Focus.

White Flight: German Families Abandoning ‘Diverse’ Schools

Families in Germany are switching their children’s schools fearing that large amounts of migrants will ruin their child’s chance at a good education.

According to a detailed report in Sueddeutsche, more and more German families are switching their child’s schooling because of the presence of more and more migrant children who often disrupt class and bully native Germans.

The article tells the story of a typical German family (names have been changed) and a typical German father who like many is eager to prove how tolerant and multicultural he and his family are. His daughter is placed in a school with a majority of the pupils being non Germans.

Yet by the end of his daughters first year in the school the father starts getting concerned the school is giving his daughter special treatment. It is not until he investigates that he realizes she is special because she is the last native German left, the others having one by one transferred to different schools.

The German school system assigns places in schools by location. This method is meant to ensure that within each school district children are able to go to a school close to where they live. The problem has now arisen in neighbourhoods with high migrant populations that more and more parents are transfering their children out of assigned schools because the allocation of resources is going toward things like German language courses and integration and their children are being left out.

German Federal Interior Minister Thomas Maiziere did nothing to calm these fears when back in November he said current school standards would need to be dropped to help integrate more migrants.

Previously only wealthy and gifted children transfered to different schools and only 10 percent of the total pupils would even request a transfer. The trend has been growing in recent years as German school children mirror the ‘white flight’ phenomenon in which native peoples move to escape the migrant fueled transformation of their historical neighbourhoods. One of the effects of the migrant crisis has been to cause rents and property prices to rise in places like Frankfurt and having much the same effect as “white flight.”

“It was a decision of head against heart,” said the father in the story and also told the paper he would be fine for his daughter to go to a more mixed school but not if she was the only German there.

The situation in Britain is very similar and in some areas even more advanced. In 2014 the UK, Ofsted remarked that a rural school in Lincolnshire received a black mark on a performance review because the school was deemed “too white” and argued that the students had a great education but did not have access to enough “diversity.”

A video that came out last year shows the attitudes school age migrants often have toward their native German peers and after viewing makes parents choices to move schools seem much more reasonable. The children in the video say Germans, “eat pig meat. I feel disgusted by them to be honest,” and that if all the native Germans would just disappear, “no one would notice.”

A senior German educator has called for all pupils in the country to be forced to study Arabic until they graduate in the interests of the multicultural state.

Professor of Computer Science Thomas Strothotte and President of a private Hamburg university has argued that German children should be forced to learn Arabic alongside German so they would better understand the country’s 1.5 million new migrants and make them feel more welcome. He said it would help Germany become “a country of immigration, and a multilingual society”.

Top German Journalist Admits Live On Air National News Agenda Set By Government

A retired media boss at a major German state broadcaster has admitted his network and others take orders from the government on what — and what not — to report.

National public service broadcaster Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen (ZDF), which was recently forced into a humiliating apology for their silence on migrant violence and sex assault is being drawn into a fresh scandal after one of their former bureau chiefs admitted the company takes orders from the government on what it reports. He said journalists received instructions to write news that would be “to Ms. Merkel’s liking”.

Former head of ZDF Bonn Dr. Wolfgang Herles make the remarks during a radio event (from minute 27) in Berlin where journalists discussed the media landscape. Moving on to the freedom of the press, the panel chair asked Dr. Herles whether things in Germany had got “seriously out of whack”. With an honesty perhaps unusual in Germany, Dr. Herles replied that ordinary Germans were totally losing faith in the media, something he called a “scandal”. He said:

“We have the problem that – now I’m mainly talking about the public [state] media – we have a closeness to the government. Not only because commentary is mainly in line with the grand coalition (CSU, CDU, and SPD), with the spectrum of opinion, but also because we are completely taken in by the agenda laid down by the political class”.

Worse than the mainstream, government controlled and poll-tax funded media in Germany just agreeing with the ruling coalition, the stations actually took orders on what was and was not to be reported on. He said:

“…the topics about which are reported are laid down by the government.

“There are many topics that would be more important than what the government wants. But they, of course, want to deflect attention away from what doesn’t happen. Yet what doesn’t happen is often more important than what does happen – more important than gesture politics”.

While these orders are sent to media companies from unspecified places in the government, they are communicated to individual journalists by news executives using a new-speak jargon. Dr. Herles explains that while “there are, in fact, instructions from above”, when the editor in chief of ZDF communicated these instructions to his juniors he would merely say reporting should be framed in a way that “serves Europe and the public good”.

There would be no need to add in brackets that this actually means it should be reported “to Ms. Merkel’s liking”, as they would be understood as the true meaning.

“Today, one is not allowed to say anything negative about the refugees” said Dr. Herles, concluding: “This is government journalism and that leads to a situation in which people no longer trust us. This is a scandal.”

There has been very little reporting of the comments in the German media, and what there was has been critical of the remarks. Focus reported the comments of one centre-left media figure, Der Freitag newspaper editor Jakob Augstein who when asked whether there had ever been such “instructions from above”, said: “No, I deny vehemently there has ever been commands from the top”.

That the German mainstream media is not free and routinely obscures or bends the truth has been a key criticism by the Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of Europe (PEGIDA) movement, which has coined phrases like Lügenpresse — the liar press — to express their frustration.
