In Kupres, one of the largest investments in Bosnia and Herzegovina
The company BH Magnezij & Minerali will soon start building a large industrial complex for the production of magnesium in the settlement of Osmanlije in the municipality of Kupres. According to information, it will be one of the most significant investments in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The company BH Magnezij & Minerali is owned by the German company MFE (Magnesium for Europe) GMBH, writes biznisinfo.ba.
The large industrial complex that this company will build will consist of as many as 14 buildings. The total area of the facilities will be 20,432 m2. The plant will be located on a 7.3-hectare plot of land.
During the production process, the main raw material will be dolomite from a nearby quarry. The main product will be metallic raw magnesium, and the co-products will be spinel, dry ice and an alloy of aluminum and magnesium. The production will be carried out in cooperation with the company Dolomit, which holds the concession for the nearby deposits. Dolomit d. o. o. is a subsidiary of MFE (controlled by MFE shareholders) and a supplier of dolomite for future magnesium production.
In August of last year, the company received permission to explore an area of about 47.5 hectares, which is right next to the 9.5 hectares for which Dolomite already owns mining rights. The estimated amount of high grade dolomite in this additional area will be increased by the future production capacity of the production. MFE calculates that with additional raw materials, it could run a production of 50,000 mt per year for more than 75 years. The company Dolomit with its subsidiaries has already invested around 10 million marks in its activities in Bosnia and Herzegovina since 2019. After the dolomite is taken out of the quarry, it will be crushed into different fractions. Dimensioned dolomite will be transported from the mine to the production hall by cable car or transport pipe, which will be decided later with the Municipality.
Only electricity will be used for transportation. As part of the planned complex, the process of producing metallic magnesium from high-quality dolomite stone will take place. Considering that the technological process will require large quantities of liquid natural gas (LPG), the construction of a gas station with a maximum capacity of 700 m3 is proposed at the location, writes biznisinfo.ba.
