Zastupnici Turskog parlamenta podržali su kontroverzne ustavne reforme koje predviđaju proširenje ovlasti predsjednika Recepa Tayyipa Erdogana.

Kako je prenio AFP, zastupnici su podržali i posljednji, 18. član novog ustava nakon maratonske rasprave, koja je trajala skoro cijeli tjedan.

Predviđeno je da u srijedu, 18. siječnja, bude održan drugi krug glasovanja u Parlamentu.

Mediji navode da su 344 zastupnika bila za, a 131 protiv, prenosi Tanjug.

Službeno Turska postala sultanat. Erdogan dobio ovlasti, skoro kao Sulejman Veličanstveni.

Turkey's central bank will not hesitate to do what is necessary, PM says

Turkey's central bank will not hesitate to take any necessary policy steps, the prime minister said on Tuesday, a day after President Tayyip Erdogan met with top economy officials to discuss volatility in the lira currency.

Erdogan, a vocal opponent of higher interest rates, met with economy officials including the central bank governor late on Monday, to discuss developments including the lira, government sources have told Reuters.

The lira has fallen as much as 10 percent so far this year, adding to a double-digit slide last year. Investors have cited fears about growing authoritarianism following a failed coup in July and concern that Erdogan's resistance to higher rates has prevented the central bank from more aggressive tightening.

The government has been keen to dispel any suggestion the central bank is less than independent.

"We evaluated measures at yesterday's meeting, and we discussed what needs to be done," Prime Minister Binali Yildirim told reporters.

When asked about central bank measures, he said: "As the central bank is independent, it would be wrong for me to announce. I can say that the central bank will not hesitate to take any necessary measure in the face of any circumstances it faces."

Two senior economy officials have said that inflation could reach double digits in the first quarter, for the first time in almost five years, due to the sell-off in the lira.

The central bank has effectively shut off two of its lira funding taps for the past two days, bankers have said, in an attempt to push lenders to borrow at a higher rate and defend the currency without an outright rate hike.

Erdogan, who espouses economic populist policies, favors cheap credit to spur lending and bolster the economy and wants borrowing costs to be low. However, he said last Thursday that the bank had the ability to take "all necessary steps" to defend the lira.

Mukhtars burn US dollars in show of support for Erdoğan

A group of mukhtars, or neighborhood heads, burned US dollar bills in Adıyaman on Monday to support President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s call to protect the Turkish lira, İHA reported.
“The economic attacks attempting to put Turkey into difficulty are continuing. As the people of Adıyaman, we are with our Reis [President Erdoğan],” said Abdulkadir Geylani Taş, head of the Adıyaman Mukhtars Association, before he set fire to dollar bills with his colleagues in Adıyaman.

Taş called on people “not to buy but to sell dollars to protect Turkey from outside attacks” and said that people who buy dollars are committing treason.
Speaking at one of his regular meetings with muhtars at the presidential palace in Ankara on Jan. 12, Erdoğan said the depreciation of the lira was the result of an operation targeting Turkey and there is no difference between a terrorist holding a gun and one having foreign currency.

“You all know that the economy is now being used to attack Turkey. There is no difference between a terrorist holding a gun in their hands and a terrorist having dollars, euros or [interest]. [The aim] is to make Turkey deviate from its goals. They are using the foreign exchange rate as a weapon. In the meantime, we certainly have some problems and troubles, but none of them can explain the foreign currency rate getting to this level in our country,” said Erdoğan, at a time when the Turkish lira has fallen to fresh record lows against both the US dollar and the euro.
President Erdoğan earlier called on people to sell off foreign currencies to support the lira, describing Turks who convert their foreign currencies into Turkish lira as “patriots.”

EU intel bureau: Erdoğan planned Turkey’s purge before coup attempt

The European Union Intelligence and Situation Centre (EU INTCEN) said in a recent report dated Aug. 24 that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan planned to purge opposition forces in the military before July’s attempted coup.

EU’s intelligence-sharing bureau said the coup attempt was a result of fear among Erdoğan’s critics in the military.
Intcen said it is likely that a group of officers comprising Gulenists, Kemalists (secularists), opponents of the AKP and opportunists was behind the coup. It is unlikely that [Fethullah] Gulen himself played a role in the attempt,” read the report.

“The coup was just a catalyst for the crackdown prepared in –advance.”
Formed in 2012, the EU INTCEN works under the authority of the EU’s High Representative for foreign affairs.

In the very aftermath of the July 15 coup attempt, Turkey announced a State of Emergency, under which basic human rights came under jeopardy. More than 123,500 people lost their jobs, over 88,000 were detained and some 42,400 arrested in post-coup government purges.

Evolution theory removed from new school curriculum

Turkish government has removed a chapter on the theory of evolution from a textbook for 12th graders, according to a newly announced curriculum by the ministry.
Education Minister İsmet Yılmaz on Friday shared the details of the new curriculum with members of the press. The new curriculum, which will be finalized in February, will be put into effect during the 2017-2018 academic year.

One of the changes in the new curriculum is the removal from a textbook of a chapter titled “The beginning of life and evolution.” It has been replaced by a chapter titled “Living creatures and the environment.”

Turkey’s Education Ministry is in the process of including the concept of jihad in compulsory school curricula, the Cumhuriyet daily reported on Friday.
Speaking during a press conference on Friday, Education Minister İsmet Yılmaz explained the details of the new curriculum to members of the press. The new curriculum, which will be finalized in February, will be put into effect during the 2017-2018 academic year.

According to Cumhuriyet, the concept of jihad will be compulsory in school curricula after seventh grade. Yılmaz said the ministry has removed a chapter on the theory of evolution from a textbook for 12th graders, according to a newly announced curriculum by the ministry.

In a speech in 2012, then-Prime Minister and current President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that his government wants to raise a “pious generation.” Since then, the Justice and Development Party (AKP) government has embarked on a process of opening religious imam-hatip schools across Turkey.
When the AKP took power in 2002, around 65,000 students were enrolled in imam-hatip schools, which are widely criticized for instilling a political Islamist ideology. That figure had risen to more than 1.5 million by 2016.

Turski parlament odobrio proširenje Erdoganovih ovlasti

Parlament Turske odobrio je izmjene ustava kojim je predviđeno povećanje ovlasti predsjednika Recepa Tayyipa Erdogana, saopćeno je iz parlamenta.

Nacrt izmjena ustava koji predviđa i proširenje ovlasti usvojen je u drugom čitanju u subotu čime se otvara put održavanju referenduma koji se očekuje u proljeće, a koji bi omogućio Erdoganu da bude predsjednik do 2029. godine.

"Naša nacija reći će zadnju riječ na tu temu. Ona će donijeti konačnu odluku", izjavio je premijer Turske Binali Yildirim po završetku glasanja.

Ustavnom reformom predsjedniku se prebacuje izvršna vlast koja je dosad pripadala premijeru.

Turski parlament je odobrio izmjenu ustava sa 339 glasova, a ustavna reforma zahtijevala je najmanje 330 glasova od ukupno 550 članova.
