Desecrated chapel and statue of the Mother of God near Bihać
The chapel and the statue of the Mother of God near Bihać were desecrated, and the incident was condemned on Friday by the Consul General of the Republic of Croatia in Banja Luka, Zoran Piličić, and he called for finding the perpetrator in order to prevent the recurrence of similar incidents.
The statue of Our Lady, which was located in a fenced chapel in the village of Kralje near Bihać, was thrown to the floor and completely broken. As Consul Piličić announced on his Facebook profile, this extremely inappropriate behavior and act of vandalism does not contribute to the preservation of social and national tolerance and coexistence in the area of the city of Bihać, which is known for tolerance and multiculturalism.
"We are particularly concerned about this vandalism because a similar act of desecration of a Catholic religious building occurred recently, when the church of St. Anthony of Padua in Bihac was desecrated with inappropriate graffiti in May this year," said the Croatian Consul General in Banja Luka.
He called on local authorities to take urgent preventive action and take measures to discourage the commission of similar acts and to prevent the violation of mutual trust and coexistence in those areas.
