Great news.

This is the sixth Croatian consulate (including the embassy) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, now the full list is: Mostar, Vitez, Livno, Sarajevo, Tuzla, Banja Luka. Amongst these the first three cities/towns are majority ethnic Croatian.

Additionally, this is the only diplomatic mission in Central Bosnia Canton. Historically, Travnik was the capital of the Otoman Bosnian Eyalet (1697 to 1850) and some foreign diplomatic missions (notably Austrian and French) were established at the beginning of the 19th century and were situated there. It is interesting that the weak Otoman Empire allowed the establishment of diplomatic missions outside of the Porte, a sign of its opening to the West. Bosnian Muslim beys in Travnik very much disliked this and tried to sabotage the arrival of Western diplomats (saw them as a de facto Christian "nobility", and did not liked the idea of respecing them; this triggered another conflict with the Sultan), with Christians obviously being delighted as they saw Austrians and French as protectors. Nobel Prize winner Ivo Andric describes this in his novel "Travnicka Hronika" (lit. Chronicle of Travnik, usually translated to English as "Bosnian Chronicle").

Jala, jala.
