Xinjiang’s Han Chinese growing faster than Uyghurs.

A majority in the rest of China, Han Chinese increased by 25 per cent in the autonomous region between 2010 and 2020.Meanwhile, the Turkic-speaking Muslim minority, which, according to a broad international consensus, is the victim of genocide by the Chinese Government, grew by 16 per cent.

The numbers come from the provincial government, which released a summary based on the national census, published on 11 May.

Out of Xinjiang's 25.9 million inhabitants, 11.6 million are Uyghurs and 10.9 million are Han Chinese. According to the authorities, the latter’s increase is due to migration from other parts of the country.

Independent researchers and academics interviewed by the South China Morning Post note that census numbers confirm accusations that Beijing wants to reduce the demographic weight of the region's Muslim minorities, which China’s leaders have linked to separatism and terrorism.

According to data from experts and humanitarian organisations, confirmed by the United Nations, the Chinese authorities detain or have detained more than a million Uyghurs, Kazakhs and Kyrgyz in Xinjiang concentration camps.

Some scholars also claim that the Chinese government is conducting a local campaign of forced sterilisations to control the growth of the Uyghur population.

Chinese authorities have denied all these accusations, claiming that the camps in Xinjiang are vocational establishments, part of projects to reduce poverty and fight terrorism and separatism.

Aspi’s report found the birthrate across Xinjiang fell by 48.74% between 2017 and 2019. In counties where the population was at least 90% non-Han Chinese, the birthrate dropped by an average 56.5% between 2017 and 2019.

Odlazak Amerikanaca ostavio je vakuum koji Kina želi popuniti. The Week javlja da se ministar vanjskih poslova Wang Yi sastao s talibanskim izaslanstvom ranije u srpnju i da su se dogovorili o većoj ulozi Kine u budućoj obnovi i gospodarskom razvoju regije.

Litij-ionske baterije prisutne su u gotovo svim elektroničkim uređajima, pa čak rade i kao sustavi za pohranu struje iz obnovljivih izvora energije. Većina litija proizvodi se u Kini, ali ona želi premjestiti rudarenje u drugu zemlju, s obzirom na rizike po okoliš koji taj proces nosi sa sobom.

Sad dolazimo do amaterizma američke politike – globalno se želi smanjiti ovisnost o kineskom litiju i komponentama za električne automobile, a sad je Kini, čini se, isporučeno jedno od najvećih nalazišta vrijednog materijala… Mi bismo, pak, u budućnosti mogli voziti električne automobile s litijem iz Afganistana, jer, kao što znate, najveći proizvođač baterija je Kina.

"Kina je odigrala konstruktivnu ulogu u promicanju mira i pomirenja u Afganistanu i dobrodošla je dati doprinos u obnovi zemlje" izjavio je za kineske državne medije glasnogovornik talibana Suhail Shaheen.

U odnosima s talibanima, sve moćnija Kina mogla bi iskoristiti činjenicu da se za razliku od Rusije i SAD-a nije borila u Afganistanu, piše Reuters

"Kina je velika zemlja s ogromnim gospodarstvom i kapacitetima - smatram da mogu odigrati vrlo veliku ulogu u obnovi i rehabilitaciji Afganistana", rekao je Shaheen u četvrtak u razgovoru za kinesku televiziju CGTN (China Global Television Network).

Talibani su uklonili ujgurske militante s područja u blizini granice Afganistana s Kinom, izjavili su izvori u regiji, u potezu za koji analitičari kažu da signalizira sve veću koordinaciju između Pekinga i afganistanske militantne grupe, piše redakcija Radija Slobodna Evropa (RSE) na engleskom jeziku.

Ujgurski militanti bili su prisutni u Badakšanu do prošle sedmica, ali su ih od tada sklonili, rekao je za RSE 4. oktobra tadžikistanski graničar iz te oblasti, pozivajući se na obavještajne izvještaje.
Nejasno je hoće li talibani predati borce kineskim vlastima.

Četiri etnička Ujgura iz Afganistana, koji su govorili za RSE pod uslovom anonimnosti iz straha od odmazde talibana, rekli su da se plaše da će pod novim talibanskim režimom biti deportovani u Kinu.

Globally Bred Chinese Talents Returning Home: An Analysis of a Reverse Brain-Drain Policy

With the Chinese economy growing at a breathtaking rate, Chinese international migration is also ushering in a transformative stage. International migration is altering both the political and business landscapes of China.

The beginning of the twenty-first century witnessed soaring numbers of overseas Chinese migrating back to China. According to statistics from the Ministry of Education, in 2012 alone, over 272,900 overseas students came back, with an increase of 46.57 per cent compared with 2011.

With its high growth rate, the Chinese economy has become the world’s second largest after the United States. After the financial crisis in 2008, while other major world economies were trapped in recession, China’s economy remained robust, which created more opportunities at home for Chinese living abroad, hence spurring the return of some Chinese migrants.

In addition, in recent years, the Chinese Government has given unprecedented attention to the development of talent. Particularly worth noting is the launch in 2010 of China’s National Talent Development Plan, which forms the cornerstone of China’s efforts to combat emerging talent development issues and helps maintain the Chinese growth locomotive. This talent cultivation plan, dubbed the National Medium- and Long-term Talent Development Plan (2010–2020), is China’s first comprehensive national plan for human resources development. The plan is set to exert an extremely powerful influence on the nation’s economic and social development for years to come.

China’s new talent strategy builds on the fact that returnees have played a pivotal role in opening up and globalizing China. As a special group, returnees have contributed to the nation’s development especially in education, science, culture and health. Most returnees have kept abreast with the latest international developments and have also been very innovative. Their work has lifted the status of China’s academics in the world. In the education sector, statistics from the Ministry of Education show that 78 per cent of the presidents, 63 per cent of PhD advisers in Chinese universities directly administered by the Ministry of Education, and 72 per cent of directors of key laboratories at the national and provincial levels are returnees. Statistics also show that 81 per cent of academicians in the Chinese Academy of Sciences and 54 per cent of academicians in the Chinese Academy of Engineering have studied overseas. In addition, 21 out of the 23 heroes on the “two bombs and one satellite” projects are returnees.

Many returnees have won the National Award for Science and Technology. Among the first winners of the National Award for Science and Technology, the National Award for Technological Invention, and the National Science and Technology Progress Award, 36.85 per cent are returnees. Among the winners of the National Award for Science and Technology, 66.67 per cent are returnees. Among the winners of the National Award for Technological Invention, 40 per cent are returnees. Among the winners of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, 30 per cent of the first batches are returnees. This data illustrates the fact that many returnees have become leaders in China’s scientific and technological research.

In the health sector, the majority of the heads of medical schools and hospitals of Grade 3A (highest grade in hospital classification by the Ministry of Health) in China are returnees. A large proportion of chief physicians are returnees who play a central role in the nation’s medical science and research.

Returnees have likewise made contributions to other sectors including journalism, culture, entertainment and media. They have not only made remarkable scientific achievements, but also pushed for the reform of the education and scientific research systems.

The number of returnees working or running businesses in Shanghai currently stands at over 220,000, the largest figure for any Chinese mainland city, according to the bureau.

"The number of returnees was 67,000 from 2016 to 2020, more than double that of the previous five years," said Zhao Yongfeng, director of the bureau.
"There were more than 22,000 in the first three quarters of this year, equivalent to last year's total."

According to the report, most entrepreneurs made use of overseas resources to create their technological advantage, form entrepreneurial teams, and develop business contacts.

"A high proportion of the initial core teams at many of these startups was composed of colleagues and schoolmates met while working and studying overseas," said Zhu Yinghua, head of the international collaboration and exchange division of the Shanghai Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau.

One example cited was thermal imaging company Magnity Technologies, which was founded in 2008 at Shanghai's Caohejing Hi-tech Park by a group of returnees and graduates from elite domestic universities.
Since the outbreak of the pandemic last year, the company's visible and thermal dual cameras for fever detection have been used in the United States, Italy, Japan, South Korea and Russia, among other countries, as well as at domestic airports and railway and metro stations.

The report also noted that many returnees are working in the municipality's pillar industries. More than 70 percent of the startups are involved in biomedicine, integrated circuitry, artificial intelligence, equipment manufacturing, new materials, and new energy－the six core drivers of Shanghai's industrial development.

Startups play a significant role in promoting Shanghai's industrial upgrading, and in the city's construction of a scientific and technological innovation center that will have global influence.

As many as 83 percent of returnee entrepreneurs hold master's or doctoral degrees. More than 71 percent also had overseas work experience, 31 percent in senior positions and 22 percent as business owners.

And with China’s rapid economic development taking place primarily in cities, ever more young women are leaving the impoverished countryside for urban areas in search of jobs and a better life. As a result, ever more Chinese men are looking abroad to find partners. And most, it seems, have their sights set on Vietnam.

The number of international marriages in China is difficult to confirm since some foreign brides are smuggled into the country and therefore not registered with the authorities.
But estimates from Xinhua News Agency indicate that there are over 100,000 Vietnamese women in China who are married to Chinese men. That far outpaces the number of foreign women from other countries who are married to Chinese men. An estimated 7,000 brides in China come from Cambodia, for example.

In Vietnam, where women experience significant social pressure both to marry and to support their families financially, China is seen as a rich country with great professional opportunities. Vietnamese women may advertise with a marriage broker because marrying a Chinese man seems likely to check off all those boxes.

Na primjer Stalin je Rusiju stvarno digao industrijski i od skoro poptuno nepismenog seljačkog naroda napravio obrazovan i industrijski dosta razvijen. Rusi su čak i nekvalitetni seljaci bili za vrijeme careva.

Da se diskutirati kako bi išlo bez njega i sve to ali nismo babe vračare.
