The route of the new highway will pass through Stolac!?
The region of Herzegovina should get another internationally important traffic corridor in the near future - after the highway on Corridor Vc, intensive preparations are being made for the project of the Adriatic-Ionian Corridor section that will pass through BiH, and as Večernji list BiH to have the area of southeastern Herzegovina, especially the City of Čapljina and the municipalities of Stolac, Neum and Ravno.
Regional importance
Earlier, it was confirmed that the FBiH Motorway Public Company announced a tender for the preliminary and main design of the Adriatic-Ionian Corridor, ie the section of the Stolac - Interregional Node Počitelj motorway, and confirmed that the estimated value of the contract for the preliminary and main design shares amount to six million KM without VAT, and the deadline for submission of bids is March 15, 2022. The JP Autoceste Federacije BiH emphasized that the Adriatic-Ionian Corridor is one of the priority infrastructure projects for Bosnia and Herzegovina, and also has great regional importance.
This corridor, with a total length of about 1,100 km, passes through seven countries and starts from Trieste in Italy, passes through Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania and ends in Greece.
About 102 km of the future Adriatic-Ionian highway should pass through BiH, starting from the junction with corridor Vc in Počitelj, through parts of the municipalities of Čapljina, Stolac, Neum, Ravno, Ljubinje and Trebinje to the junction with Montenegro.
One of the first municipalities to be covered by this section is Stolac, which is already said to become one of the important traffic hubs, thanks, among other things, to the project of the highway to Neum.
In a statement for Večernji list, Mayor Stjepan Bošković expressed his satisfaction with the publication of a public call for an impact study and the main project on the Adriatic-Ionian Corridor, ie the section that will pass through Stolac.
"It has already been coordinated with the entire corridor, so, God willing, with the development of this project, I hope that work will begin," said Boskovic.
He especially pointed out the fact that Stolac has a significant, and in the near future will have an even more important role in the context of traffic hubs, starting with the fact that the main road to Neum passes through Stolac, and the highway on Corridor Vc is not far.
"The future hub of the Adriatic-Ionian highway will also not be far away. At the same time, the project documentation is being prepared until the connection of the main road M17-3 Stolac - Neum ", explained Bošković, emphasizing the fact that this move connects three municipalities in southern BiH, except Stolac, there are Neum and Ravno.
Extreme importance
The Adriatic-Ionian highway, according to the plans of the authorities in the country, will pass through one of its significant parts through BiH, with the route of the highway moving from Počitelj, where there would be a junction with corridor Vc, and through parts of Čapljina, Stolac, Neum, Ravno, Ljubinje , Popovo Polje to Trebinje and the connection point with Montenegro in the area of Arandjelovo / Nudo.
Traffic revitalization of this part of BiH should be viewed through the prism of the fact that the Government of the Federation of BiH recently made a decision to re-categorize the road Dracevo - Hutovo - Ravno.
Such a move will be extremely important in economic importance for the southeast of Herzegovina, and especially for four local communities - the City of Capljina and the municipalities of Stolac, Neum and Ravno.
