Opposition Republicans painted over threatening graffiti addressed to Croats in Mostar
Representatives of the opposition Croatian Republican Party (HRS) from Bosnia and Herzegovina painted over the offensive and threatening graffiti written in the settlement with Croatian returnees in Mostar and accused the leading Croatian and Bosniak party HDZ BiH and SDA of supporting division in the city.
Although a request for removal was submitted immediately after the police report, the threatening graffiti written on Sunday, calling for violence against Croats in the settlement of Vrapčići, was not removed by the city utility service of Mostar.
This work was carried out by HRS activists, a party that is close to Most in Croatia. They painted over the threatening inscription on the wall and on the local road leading to the Croatian returnee settlement with white paint.
"Since the communal services decided to ignore their work and allow offensive graffiti to remain written for several days, we painted over it today," announced the Croatian Republican Party and provided photos of this action. They announced that they will issue an invoice for the works performed to the City Administration of Mostar.
Republicans believe that ignoring the municipal service to remove offensive and threatening signs is the best evidence that the ruling parties HDZ BiH and the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) are dividing Mostar into the majority eastern Bosniak part and the western, majority Croat part of the city.
The police in Mostar confirmed that they are conducting an investigation into the writing of messages to Croats.
Threatening and insulting Croats were also written in earlier years in the part of the Vrapčić settlement inhabited by Croats, who returned there after the end of the Bosniak-Croat war.
