About Crimea

In 1783, Crimea was annexed by the Russian Empire. Following the Russian Revolution of 1917, Crimea became an autonomous republic within the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic in the USSR, though later, during World War II, it was downgraded to the Crimean Oblast. The indigenous population and the majority are Crimean Tatars disloyal to the Soviet regime. Due to ethnic cleansing and genocide, they were evicted.

In 1954, the Crimean Oblast was transferred to the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic by Nikita Khrushchev in order to bolster the "unity of Russians and Ukrainians" and the "great and indissoluble friendship" between the two peoples. It became the Autonomous Republic of Crimea within newly independent Ukraine in 1991, with Sevastopol having its own administration, within Ukraine but outside of the Autonomous Republic.
In exchange for the Crimea from Ukraine to the Russian Federation at the same time (the protocol of the Presidium of the CPSU Central Committee No. 49 of January 25, 1954) transferred Taganrog and its bordering lands, over the territory of equal areas of the peninsula in the Black Sea. Now the government of the Crimean Tatars, chosen before annexation, supports Ukraine.

Spare me the crocodile tears about the Crimean Tatars, like you would care about them if they were not anti Russian. If you were smart enough to wait just one year, and then oust Yanukovich legally on elections, you wouldn't lose Crimea, and you wouldn't have a war in the Donbas, because the Russians wouldn't have an excuse to do all that. Now you will never see Crimea back in the Ukraine again, and you will be forced to give some kind of autonomy to Lugansk and Donetsk.

One year of waiting, that was all you had to do. Yanukovich was unpopular, and he would legally lose the elections, and there would be nothing Russia could do about it. But, as I sad, you were stupid enough to listen to the Americans, who wanted a war between you and Russia, and you got what you asked for (or rather, what the Americans asked for). Now enjoy Russia kicking your ass, while your American "friends" won't lift an eyebrow to help you.
