Robbie MO je napisao/la: Meni zvuci (ne znaci da sam upravu) :
Fall behind = zaostati (svrseni oblik) Lagging behind = zaostajati (nesvršeni)
Je li itko još “čuje” , ili barem umišlja, ikakvu suptilnu razliku ? Ne znam kako ti to moze tako zvucati kad engleski jezik ne poznaje glagolske vidove kao hrvatski jezik. Varljivo je zbog oblika u kojem su navedeni. Gore navedeni oblici mogu biti i "falling behind" and "lag behind" i imaju identicno znacenje. Ako se koriste u present continuous onda oba imaju iste oblike, a to su "I am falling behind" and "I am lagging behind". Neka me ispravi netko ako grijesim.

Pa zbog "ing" je nesvrseni oblik, to je otprilike gramaticka pribliznost.
Ali izraz "is falling behind" nema mi previse smisla, dok je kod lagging infinitive oblik prirodan.
Bar meni osobno tako zvuci.

Može "is falling behind", kao i "will be falling behind".

Bar meni osobno tako zvuci. Continuous i jest i nije nesvršeni oblik. Simple Past ti izriče tzv. complete action, znači radnju za koju znaš da je završena. Kod Continuousa ili ne znaš je radnja kompletirana ili te nije briga. A svi Continuousi tvore ono što se u engleskom zove aspect, baš kao i sva simple vremena. Kad budem imala vremena, objasnit ću to podrobnije.

Thank you for the answers. You are very kind. I heard today for the first time the word "henceforth". To be honest, I've never heard that word before.

Razumi se koji je forth/fourth po rjecenici. Sala je, "play on words." Ovako bi se to raztumacilo, "Dođi cetvrti, ali nemojte skliznuti na kožu od banane i dakle bit peti."

Kad budem imala vremena, objasnit ću to podrobnije. Aspect? Sto je to. The Aspect is a grammatical category or categories, to be exact. For example, all continuous tenses, looked as a whole, make (present, past, future continuous) the continuous aspect. The Perfect aspect (also three tenses, Past Perfect, Present Perfect and Future Perfect). The Simple aspect (Past Simple, Present Simple, Future Simple). All these tenses if they belong to the same aspect have certain similarities, both in form and usage. For instance, the auxiliary verb for the Perfect aspect is always to have, for the continuous to be and so on. The usage of the tenses belonging to the same aspect is also pretty analogous. But, when I'm gonna write about the comparative analysis of the tenses, will come back to that, because aspects are very convenient for it. https://www.grammar-monster.com/glossar ... aspect.htmAs I said, will come back to it at later time.

I began to read the book "Life on the Mississippi" of Mark Twain. I've already found a lot of unknown words and those words could not be encountered frequently in real life and in the modern usage of English language.
The book is quite interesting therefore I'm going to continue struggling with English in it.

I think the difference stems from the technology of the time and culture/fashion, for example: tools appearing in everyday's life, popular things of the time etc. The Lord of the Rings published in much later 1954 also contains a huge proportion of unusual words, you really need a dictionary when reading. In that case it's really not about the age, the English of 1954 is the same as today's, but the intentional author's use of rare words to create a mystical setting for the plot.

The book was written 1883. I regularly read articles and news on web sites in English. But English in the book is quite different I one question for those who are good in English. How can I say: Citat: Drukčiji od onoga, što ja koristim Thank you for your time. This bold part is especially interesting for me.
