You can't compare native and non-native speakers, native speakers have the language embedded in their brains. No matter how good you become, you can't compete with that.

You can't achieve the level of native speakers that easy. If ever. A native speaker has flawless phonetics, sintax, every domain of language. he or she has a spontaneity and creativity. Natives are fluent when it comes to various accents.
It not just number of words, only if you are bilingual, you can come close to that, or a language professor, and not even then is that a rule.
Let's give you an example. If you are learning German, for instance, you have to learn all the articles for each word. The German people have all of that literally in their brains.
That means not only that they have an advantage compared to you, that means that they can't make a mistake.
They are virtually psychologically unable to make a mistake. If they make it, they have aphasia.
They can't violate the system. The can only decide not to obey the standard.

Yes and no. IT's enough for B1 level. At that level you are expected to know all you have mentioned, but that's not an advanced level. it's lower intermediate according to the CEFR.
It's the lowest level that you have to master in order to apply as a foreign student.
As a comparison, if you are a professor, your skills have to be at least at C1/C2.

The B1 is also the lowest level that enables you to have a real communication, but not a broad one.

But not even the C2 makes possible for someone to read poetry, for example.

You can become as good, if not superior to a native speaker through total immersion. But I think that it comes at a cost as I don't think our brains are wired to have 2 or more languages as the default for our own operating systems. You become a native speaker once you start forming your thoughts in that language.

As I said, it does come at a cost. For me to write/speak in Croatian in any discourse exceeding your everyday banalities, it takes a fair degree of concentration and effort (which isn't enjoyable).

That's why I write in Croatian fora. German or English speakers rarely understand our jokes or word plays. Not to mention swear words.

The capability to learn and speak different languages doesn't say anything about the "technical" side of doing it.
Unless one is trained to work as a translator, it takes some time and effort to "switch" from one language to another.

Yes, you have your polyglots and professional translators. What I am talking about isn't just the ability to carry on a conversation, but the ability to "live and breathe" a language, which means to form all your thoughts (and express emotions and subconscious reflex reactions) in a language.

Our OS is wired for 1 language. Every additional language you pick-up is just an expansion pack to the core OS. Sure, you might be able to conduct a meeting or a conversation in the other language, or even to perform difficult real-time translations, but it is a conscious process/action/task that has an inbuilt delay and takes some effort and energy.

If you totally immerse yourself in a language (and do so before the onset of a formative age (usually before 14) when most of your vocabulary is built), then you can switch your original OS language for another one (and have no detectable accent in your new OS language), but they can't truly equally coexist.
