So the possessive form is pronounced "Arkensoz". Though at first I thought "Why the fuck did he post that, he said nothing new about the subject", you actually corrected me about the pronunciation of Arkansas, it's not "Arkanso", it's "Arkenso". Though it's really between those two, it is slightly more E than A, very slitghtly, but nevertheless, if I were on a quiz, I would go with E, but I wouldn't be that much wrong to go with A either.

I pondered about this, so I checked it, and you were actually right. Apostrophe in the possessive form goes last only when the word ends with "S", and only when it's in a plural form. So yeah, Tito's is both possessive form and shortened version of "Tito is", and I was being a smartass.

Most people in the English speaking world wouldn’t bother placing the apostrophe after a word to donate ownership. For the most part it’s inferred in the sentence.

So you just add an S, and it's understandable from the context weither it means ownership or plural. I agree, you should even proclaim that grammatically correct, because it is completely clear from the context of the sentence what one meant by adding that S on the end of the word.

No. I misread it as drought, which is indeed pronounced as draut (suša). Draught, on the other hand, is pronounced draft, in British English (means promaja), and draft (spelled like that) is also pronounced draft, but in this case, it means nacrt, also in British English. In colonial English, in US and Canada, both words are spelled as draft, and weither it means promaja or nacrt, depends on the context.

Zanimljiva je istost suglasnika rijeci trn u hrvatskom i engleskom:

Tu rijec ocito nismo uzeli iz engleskog, a ne vjerujem niti da je latinski poveznica (mi sigurno to nismo uzeli iz latinskog), vjerojatno je u pitanju prastara indoeuropska veza jer se i na Sanskrtu grm/trnjak kaze trnaka.

Ima jos dosta takvih rijeci koje su u skoro svim europskim jezicima iste i nije rijec o "latinskim" , "grckim" rijecima niti novijim posudjenicama... nos, voda, mijeko, sunce, put, brat, kuhati, neki brojevi itd.

Ali broj slicnih rijeci je puno veci nego sto izgleda, skoro pola rijeci se mogu povezati. Recimo rijec prdi (fart) lingvisti takodjer kazu da se isto kaze na slavenskom i engleskom... s tim da je engleski jezik dozivio promjene glasova p -->f , d-->t , k->h , ... i da je protoindoeuropska rijec vjerojetno perd. Na slican nacin je kuca - casa - house posvuda ista.

Indijski lingvisti (indijski nacionalisti?) tvrde da je teorija o protoindoeuropskom jeziku koji je nastao negdje oko juzne Rusije ili Anadolije konstrukt europskih lingvista i da je eurocentricna, tvrde da PIE jezik uopce nije postojao kao neki posebni stari jezik i da je PIE=Sanskrt, odnosno da su svi ti jezici nastali iz Sanskrta. Zapravo, postoji mala sansa da su u pravu, ali najvjerojatnije nisu.

Uglavnom, relevantna poanta za ovu temu je da postoji konekcija izmedju puno vise engleskih i hrvatskih rijeci nego sto izgleda.
