To which email address would you (not you would) like this email sent? ("to be" is redundant, not incoerrect, but redundant).

So, "To which email addess would you like this email sent?"

Engleski je postao jezik korporativnog proseravanja. Njemački je za ljude s manje očekivanja, koji trebaju posao sad i odmah.

For the good peeps who are working hard on improving their English, I've only recently found out about a fantastic resource:

https://books.google.com/ngrams/info

The Ngram search allows you to search the entire digitised collection of works on Google Books (around 25 million books written between 1800 and 2008). So, if you are unsure of a particular phrase or a word, follow the instructions above to see the appropriate usage over time. This should work a lot better than simple Google web searches which will give you plenty of spurious website matches not authored by great practitioners of English, but rather by a 17 year old intern managing a website CMS. You can also see trends over time, which might stop you from using archaic terms.

Could you give an example of a few archaic terms? I want to see if i'm using them. If it's not to much of a hassle, I wont get offended if you find it tedious to point them out.

Nothing off the top of my head, I've got writer's block...it really depends on how dated the dictionaries/textbooks are that people are using to learn from. As a rule, they will always be way too formal and robotic for everyday usage.

Actually, the classic which comes to mind (which I remember from most dictionaries) is "How do you do?" The only correct answer to that is, WTF, are you impersonating Clark Gable or something?

"How are you doing?" replaced that phrase if I'm not mistaken. But I didn't know that "How do you do?" is something grandad would say, that's new information for me. Thanks.

I often say "How do you do?". I know nobody uses it much nowadays, but I intentionally want to sound polite and catch attention. :zubati

It's pretty much in all English learning materials, so... Yes they do use it. It's standard English. Nobody expects you to be a slang master, but that's just our Balkan thing.

We have to know it all.

For those who might be looking to take their English to C2 (and beyond), I have it on great academic authority that this book is the ultimate resource:

https://www.amazon.com/Garners-Modern-English-Usage-Garner/dp/0190491485

Make sure that you get the 4th edition (2016), which was unique in being the first book to utilise Google's Ngrams I mentioned in a few posts above this one. I'm getting this one as well as a trusty reference and to aid with taking my writing style to new highs.

Depends on the vernacular...it might be covered in that style guide. I have seen it used interchangeably, but I'm a bit tainted because I'm from the financial markets where "new highs" is used in a different context, but it seeps into other forms of expression.

The other one to consider, if your primary interest is with writing or publishing (fiction or non-fiction) is: https://www.amazon.com/Chicago-Manual-Style-17th/dp/022628705X/

I really enjoy sayings and phrases which have an almost perfect companion in a different language, that is, they can be translated into a sequence which has both a similar flow and conveys almost the identical sentiment.

Let's try this one:

"Be that as it may..."

That's correct, well done. I didn't think it was that challenging, but since no one had responded within a week I concluded it had confused the people reading this topic.

I will add a slight usage distinction between "be that as it may" and "bilo kako bilo". This is just my interpretation from seeing both phrases in daily usage, so correct me if I'm wrong.

"Bilo kako bilo" to me is more of an expression of resignation, acceptance (of something not that great) and moving forward.

"Be that as it may" seems to be more of a synonym for "I hear you, but...", when the person uttering it wants to convey that they have heard your arguments, but had dismissed them and decided to press on with their intended course. Maybe my perception is a bit warped as I have generally been surrounded by arrogant and pigheaded people who seem to love the phrase.

That said, for the purposes of translation, I'd be comfortable with using them interchangeably.

I fully agree with you, nevertheless I feel differently :D (quoting my friend T.)

"nek ti bude" would fit the first part of your explanation, or perhaps "kako god". you see no reason to continue pressing the matter and let it be, although you disagree. "bilo kako bilo" goes in the same category with "međutim", in my opinion and fits the second part of your post.
¿Me explico? :D

"Nek ti bude" equivalent in modern English usage might be "OK, you win", "Fair enough", "OK, let's move on", "I have nothing to add" and similar.

"Kako god" sounds slightly more passive aggressive and corresponds perfectly with "Whatever...", "Sure, whatever", in both pure translation and usage.
